Teeth gap?

okay i have a gap between my front teeth(medium size) and i want to get it closed.(i'm 13 by the way) and i want braces to fix like 3 teeth that are crooked but!- my friend told me about a procedure she had done that the orthodontist(or whoever does this) takes a machine and it take like 1 hour to pull my teeth together so that i would have the gap closed. after i get that i think i'll get braces. what is this procedure called????????/ what should i do?????????

If you are going to get braces the best thing to do is to let the orthodontist close the gap then. I've been a hygienist for 15 years and haven't heard of that procedure or believe it can be done. Also, if your teeth are moved too quickly (even with braces) it can cause the roots of the teeth to become shorter and the teeth less stable as a result. Hope that helps!

Other Replys:I have to have a brace on the top and bottom sets of teeth (I'm 13 too) and I'm really worried that it will hurt.

I do not really think that there is such a thing as that procedure because I have 2 gaps where there should be molars but there were not any adult teeth underneath, on the bottom set, and slight overcrowding of my bottom incisors so the brace will make the gaps smaller and overcrowding looser.

On the top I need a brace for a canine that is very far forward and does not fit in the gap.

But my point is if I do not need that machine to do either of my gaps then you probably will not either... good luck at the orthodontics (it is quite scary, but I hate people fiddling round with my teeth and thats exactly what they do.)
